Turbidity

Turbidity is defined as the cloudy appearance in water and is caused by suspended solids, much like the formation of 'smoke' in a gas. It is one of the most important parameters used to determine the quality of drinking water. By law, public water suppliers are required to treat their water to remove turbidity. Although turbidity is an aesthetic indicator and will not give specific details of a pollutant present, it will however provide information on the degree of overall contamination. There is the also the need to monitor turbidity in natural water supplies to maintain a healthy ecosystem, as well as within monitoring the wastewater treatment process.
