A boiler is a sealed unit in which water, or any other liquid for that matter, is heated. This liquid then is released, either in liquid or vapourised form, and is used in a range of heating applications. These applications range from static domestic uses (heating the radiators in your house) through to large scale locomotive applications (like the famous train, hogwarts express!).
A cooling tower is a device used to remove waste heat from an application and send it up into the atmosphere. They are used in a number of industries, but probably are most recognisable for their use in power plants.
The first thing that comes to mind is this... 'what on earth do these things have in common?'. The irony is not lost on us that these are diametrically opposed, one heating water and the other cooling it down, but look a bit closer and you'll see there are two main common problems: Corrosion and Deposits.
