Incorrect water temperature is a key risk factor for legionella growth. The legionella bacteria multiply in water temperatures between 20C to 45C.
A typical method of control is to store hot water above 60C and distribute it above 50C, whilst keeping cold water below 20C.

New Legal Responsibilities
A recent change in the legal requirements significantly extends the scope on control of legionella bacteria in water. All employers who manage premises with hot/cold water systems have a legal responsibility to identify any risk of contamination and to prevent or manage it.
The Hanna Legionella Temperature Kit is designed to be used to monitor the temperature of both standing water and the surface temperature of pipes and storage tanks within a water system, as well as measuring the delivered temperature from the tap.
