| Hanna Part No: HI-83221-food The HI-83221 (or C221 as it was previously called), is a complete and ready to use kit for the analysis of the colour of honey. It is made up of a professional photometer with direct readout in mm Pfund, a set of 5 measurement cuvettes and analytical grade glycerine for accurate calibration. Using this meter takes away all the guesswork associated with Honey colour measurement to provide accurate and repeatible results.
Honey can come in many different colours from straw yellow to amber, and from dark amber to almost black with a hint of red. The colour of untreated honey originates from the botanical varieties of plant visited by the bees who produced it. In addition the colour of honey tends to darken with age or can be afftected by the method of production, age of the hive etc.
Honey colour is measured in millimeters on the Pfund scale compared to an analytical standard scale of reference on the graduation of glycerine. The Hanna Honey meter uses 2 tungsten lamps with a narrow band interference filter to shine through the honey sample and accurately measure the exact colour anc convert it to read in mm Pfund.
